Jesus is called God

KJV = King James Version translation

2 Peter 1.1

1 συμεων πετρος δουλος και αποστολος ιησου χριστου τοις ισοτιμον ημιν λαχουσιν πιστιν εν δικαιοσυνη του θεου ημων και σωτηρος ιησου χριστου

…of our God and saviour Jesus Christ. [TRW]
…of oure God and sauyour Jhesu Crist. [WYC]
…of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ. [KJV]

As you can see, the KJV introduces ambiguity on this verse and issue. The way they rendered this is not supported in the Greek manuscripts, though they may have been working from a different manuscript that was not in the Majority Byzantine form that was the mainstay throughout the history of the Church, until the Scientific era. Wycliffe’s translation aligns with the Greek text, as does The Rooted Word translation. Both of these two retain the clear, unambiguous text that Jesus is God and Saviour. Let us compare this verse’s structure to the structure and translation of 3 other verses in 2 Peter that are nearly identical.

The same structure is found in the following 3 passages

2 Peter 1.11

11 ουτως γαρ πλουσιως επιχορηγηθησεται υμιν η εισοδος εις την αιωνιον βασιλειαν του κυριου ημων και σωτηρος ιησου χριστου

…of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. [TRW]
…of oure Lord and sauyour Jhesu Crist. [WYC]
…of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. [KJV]

2 Peter 2.20

20 ει γαρ αποφυγοντες τα μιασματα του κοσμου εν επιγνωσει του κυριου και σωτηρος ιησου χριστου τουτοις δε παλιν εμπλακεντες ηττωνται γεγονεν αυτοις τα εσχατα χειρονα των πρωτων

…of the Lord and saviour Jesus Christ… [TRW]
…of oure Lord and sauyour Jhesu Crist… [WYC]
…of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ… [KJV]

2 Peter 3.18

18 αυξανετε δε εν χαριτι και γνωσει του κυριου ημων και σωτηρος ιησου χριστου αυτω η δοξα και νυν και εις ημεραν αιωνος αμην

…of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ… [TRW]
…of oure Lord Jhesu Crist and oure Sauyour… [WYC]
…of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ… [KJV]

2 Peter of the Lord of us and saviour Jesus Christ
1.1
του θεου (God)
ημων και σωτηρος ιησου χριστου
1.11
του κυριου ημων και σωτηρος ιησου χριστου
2.20
του κυριου και σωτηρος ιησου χριστου
3.18
του κυριου ημων και σωτηρος ιησου χριστου

As you can see the structures are identical in all 4 verses. So since we render the other 3 as “of the Lord (of us) and Saviour Jesus Christ” we must also render the first verse of the God of us and Saviour Jesus Christ”. That means that if Jesus Christ is both our Lord and Saviour, then he is both our God and Saviour, according to the testimony of God.
